Primary school in Wakefield

In January 2006, Sarah Wigglesworth Architects (SWA), in partnership with NPS Group, were appointed by Wakefield Council to design a replacement for the Victorian Sandal Magna Primary School and associated nursery, which had come to the end of its life. Originally built in 1890, the school had become neglected as its pupil roll had declined over previous years, making it problematic to maintain. The new building had to accommodate 210 pupils aged between 5–11 years and needed to be capable of future expansion to 315 pupils. The school also contains a community room for use by parents for adult education and other community activities.
