The design for this cultural and conference centre emerged from a competition. It was named in honor of the sculptor Edwin Scharff. The location is outstanding: The building stands in the middle of a park with old chestnut trees directly on the Danube and is easily accessible on foot from the city centre of Neu-Ulm. On the opposite bank of the river, behind the fortress walls and defensive towers, brick-roofed half-timbered houses cluster together to form an impressive medieval townscape, dominated by the silhouette of Ulm Minster.
