In 1911, the unfinished shell of a church built in the Neo-Gothic style was consecrated. Due to financial constraints, the nave and the entire westwork, including the tower, could not be completed at that time. Thus, until the 1970s, the church suffered from a poorly proportioned interior, whose simple brickwork on the exterior suggested a central space. Inside, the spatial impression was unsatisfactory: bombastic stucco work, inaccurate vaults, and disproportionate columns in relation to very narrow side aisles and a much too short nave.
