The site designated for the cultural centre is ideally located within the city centre: tangentially adjacent to the old, central streets around the Church of the Redeemer and the pedestrian zone "Wilhelmstraße." One challenge in integrating it into the city centre was its large volume of 42,000 cubic metres, particularly that of the Bean Tower. The architectural task was to integrate this tower into the overall design. This has been achieved, in part, through the surrounding low-rise structures, which—at least when viewed up close—make the tower appear to be set back.
