Air and Space Museum, Washington/USA

The National Air and Space Museum is located on Washington's green axis, "The Mall," across from the neoclassical National Gallery. Three large, glass-enclosed exhibition halls are situated between four marble-clad cubes. The central hall, containing the main entrance, aligns with the National Gallery's axis. The transition from enclosed to open exhibition spaces is emphasized by varying ceiling heights and setbacks in the building's facade. These exhibition halls, covered by skylights and featuring floor-to-ceiling glass facades, measure 18.30 metres high, 35.08 metres wide, and 36.60 metres deep. They house the Spirit of St. Louis, Lindbergh's transatlantic aircraft, rockets, and now-historic spacecraft.
