The goal of responsible historic preservation should be to identify the original design elements of old buildings during their restoration and, if necessary, to reconstruct them. In contrast, new buildings must strive to adopt the scale and structure of the existing ensemble and interpret the historical architecture using contemporary architectural methods. The planning process was preceded by an inventory of the houses on Ostenstrasse. The results showed that all the houses had lost all or part of their original details due to replacement, alterations, and new construction.
