Alsterarkaden in Hamburg
The purpose of these arcades is to create a continuous pedestrian connection along the Inner Alster and the Alster lakes to the harbor. The last missing section was completed by the approximately 100-metre-long arcade structure shown here, located between the Adolphs Bridge and the Graskeller Bridge. The lightweight steel and glass construction provides weather protection for pedestrians while minimizing the amount of light entering the adjacent buildings. The varying window heights of the buildings necessitated this change in elevation.
