Olympic Centre in Lake Placid

Context: The new Lake Placid Olympic Centre was built on a 2.3-hectare site excavated from a north-facing slope, structurally connected to the existing 1932 Olympic Hall to the northeast and—with a view to its future use as a university sports hall—in close proximity to Lake Placid University. The new building's height is aligned with these existing structures. Dimensions and program: The hall, built on a rectangular plan (covered area 16,275 m²), with a height of 26 m at the front and 19 m at the rear, covers, together with the old Olympic Hall, to which it is linked by a low connecting wing attached to the east front, the largest indoor sports area in the world (a total of 5,574 m²).
