Special Needs Day Care Centre and Educational Counseling Centre in Freiburg-Weingarten
Urban Planning Context: The building complex is situated on gently sloping terrain north of the district's central green space, adjacent to a square with a church and shopping centre; it is accessed from there via a path. Play areas and a parking lot are located adjacent to the building. Spatial Program: Adapting to the hillside location, the building is one to two stories high, with ground-level access to both floors. The after-school care centre is located on the upper floor, the child guidance centre on the lower floor, and the play areas in front of it. The five group rooms of the after-school care centre – each for 15 children with an adjoining workshop area – are located around two central halls, one used as a multi-purpose room and the other as a kitchen; both are accessed via a corridor with adjoining ancillary rooms.
