House of the Guest in Hopfen Am See/Ostallgäu

The spatial layout aims for differentiated use of space. The main entrance and foyer provide access to the ballroom with stage and gallery (approximately 300 seats in total), the library with reading and television rooms, and the café-restaurant with terrace (approximately 120 seats). Movable partitions allow for the spatial separation of the restaurant from the ballroom and the conference room from the restaurant. The external articulation and staggered arrangement of the building volumes correspond to the site's contours and the spatial requirements. Wood, as both a structural and design material, combined with white masonry, defines the building's appearance. Construction: The load-bearing roof structure was built with glulam beams. The majority of the 23° pitched gable and shed roofs were spanned by simple glulam rafters spaced 1.80 m apart for smaller spans, and by three-hinged beams for larger spans.
