The "Weissacher Tal Education Centre" opened in 1976 as the most recent model school project for a full-day school in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It encompasses lower secondary education, including the orientation phase, in an integrated yet differentiated format. The decisive factor in realizing this concept was ultimately cost-effectiveness, which, due to the extremely poor soil conditions, clearly favored the lightweight, single-storey solution, as this avoided the need for a costly pile foundation. The significantly more economical shallow foundation, consisting of a layer of mineral concrete approximately 1-1.5 metres thick, simultaneously raised the building site to the required flood-free elevation.
