The project was conceived by an interdisciplinary team as a model vocational training centre for young people with disabilities – an open, decentralized facility. It was awarded first prize in a competitive process. Here, young people with disabilities are trained in technical and commercial professions for which they would otherwise find no training opportunities on the general labour market – due to the nature, severity, or specific effects of their disability – regardless of whether they are capable of vocational training or can be brought to full vocational training capacity. Furthermore, the entire complex is based on the overarching goal of enabling these young people to develop their own social position within the social and built environment through employment and, in the broadest sense, to find a relationship to the built environment that is appropriate for them.
