When the garden city of Puchenau was built, the low rows of atrium houses with their walled courtyards and gardens were sometimes called the "affluent concentration camp" by passersby. In reality, however, such single-family homes with rooms oriented inwards towards secluded private outdoor space are, in a sense, a return to the age-old courtyard house type. The now-proven high level of residential satisfaction among the residents of this garden city confirms that the advantages of this traditional house design still hold true today.
