The construction of this new church was decided upon due to the irreparably poor structural condition of its 19th-century predecessor. However, the tower of the old church was preserved as a landmark and focal point in the flat landscape and connected to the new building via a landscaped inner courtyard. This courtyard also serves as a link between the outside world and the sacred space. The church portals are located on the courtyard front, opposite the tower: the main entrance, which enters through a narrow passage near the sacristy in the area of the chancel, and the exit at the rear of the nave. A narrow wing of the building (at the end of which are the restrooms) forms a further boundary of the courtyard; the final boundary is formed by a low wall on the entrance side, continuing the enclosure created by the old building sections and the tower.
