Caretaker's Detached House
This caretaker's apartment is part of the educational centre of the municipality of Waghäusel/Karlsruhe district. The simple floor plans often found in "annexes" of larger construction projects were deliberately avoided during the planning phase. The cubically structured, flat-roofed building, slightly offset in its roof and floor levels, is accentuated along its longitudinal axis by a sawtooth skylight. A change in height separates the kitchen, entrance area, and dining space from the living room. The absence of a basement in this area allows for greater ceiling height in the living room. This internal articulation is reflected externally and further emphasized by the cantilevered upper floor.
