Millburngate Centre Shopping Mall in Durham, England
The new Millburngate shopping centre with parking levels in the medieval English city of Durham is located on the west bank of the river that flows through the city, at the head of an old arched bridge and directly below the castle. It forms the new focal point of the western part of the city. The relatively small site, with a slight slope towards the river promenade, is bisected by a cross street, necessitating the construction of two separate complexes. The southern boundary at the bridgehead is formed by a row of old houses and shops, which had to be integrated into the overall development as renovation projects.
