Secondary School in Bigge-Olsberg

The secondary school in Bigge-Olsberg was built on a confined site between older buildings of a middle school/vocational school and a primary school. One of the requirements was to preserve the terraced schoolyard area in front of the middle school. The winning competition entry from Werkgemeinschaft 66 (Gerber, Lange, Stelljes), Meschede, conceived a two-storey building complex staggered to follow the topography, adopting the dominant orientation of the middle school building and connecting the individual school units. The central area of both buildings was positioned at the interface between them (the building volume is approximately 28,000 m³).
