The design objective was to integrate the large building complex (the hotel comprises 340 rooms) into the small-scale facade structure of Amsterdam's old town. Structural constraints, such as the integration of the Press House basement levels and two listed buildings at the corner of Hekeveld and Kattegat, as well as the building height restrictions, had to be taken into account. Visual integration into the cityscape was achieved primarily through a continuous arcade that extends into the interior of the building. The front and side facades are divided into individual compartments, employing units of measurement traditionally used in Amsterdam.
