The "Steinkrug" restaurant, formerly a post office and long owned by the Knigge family (see Baron von Knigge), is situated on an old federal highway leading south from Hanover to the eastern foothills of the Deister Mountains. In the 19th century, the post office had already been expanded once – probably by the Knigge family's architect, the Hanoverian court architect Georg Ludwig Laves (the building certainly bears his distinctive style). Due to its poor condition, the owner initially considered demolition. However, the architect suggested preserving the building's structure, which was still worth preserving, by repainting the exterior and only undertaking a major interior renovation.
