The Heiligenkreuz state kindergarten was built on a 2000 square metre plot of land in the immediate vicinity of Heiligenkreuz Abbey and the local elementary school. The building was designed with a view to future expansion into a two-group facility. The central architectural concept was a large, open space largely defined by a freely cantilevered, space-defining roof, which is concentrated by understated, largely closed perimeter walls and illuminated by a continuous skylight at the truss level.
