IBM Germany acquired a site on the outskirts of Nuremberg, in the Langwasser district, where construction was possible to consolidate its previously scattered branch offices. The surrounding area features a striking mix of high-rise towers and multi-storey apartment buildings along Münchener Straße. The building's form and orientation reflect the east-west trend of linear buildings and the north-south orientation of the street. Access, controlled by traffic lights, is via Münchener Straße, a busy thoroughfare connecting the Nuremberg-South interchange to the city centre. Because a 50-metre-long on-site parking area was required, open parking spaces had to be created between the building and the adjacent allotments and residential buildings, shielded from the latter by a 2-metre-high, planted noise barrier.
