Built in 1685 for grain storage and similar purposes, the "Granarium" of Weingarten Abbey is a monumental Baroque building with a rectangular floor plan and a central projection crowned with a volute gable. Corner quoins and plaster bands separating the floors articulate the facade. Originally, each floor was a large room with an exposed timber frame (32 wooden columns and a timber beam ceiling). These halls were enclosed in 1920 by the installation of 18 apartments, which are now being removed. The building has been adapted for a completely new use—to house the premises of the Teacher Training College—through renovations carried out in accordance with historic preservation principles.
