Single-Family House near Hilversum

The house is situated in a scenic area (near the Vecht River), a few kilometers from Hilversum. In earlier times, this area was primarily home to villas built by wealthy citizens from Amsterdam. The building was erected on the site of an old villa in a disused, publicly accessible parkland adjacent to a wooded area. The client, the architect (Joost van der Grinten), and the landscape architect (Wim Boer) were particularly keen to integrate the property as harmoniously as possible into the park landscape. This required, among other things, a differentiation in the proportions and materials of the building, which arose primarily from the fact that this landscape is very diverse: to the north of the house lies the forest, to the south a hill and the "Valley of the Rhododendrons," heathland and a managed forest to the west, and an English and a Japanese garden to the east.
