Single-Family House with Self-Contained Flat in Düsseldorf
The house is located in a residential area of single-family homes in Düsseldorf. Building lines, roof pitch, and wall construction were prescribed in the development plan. The floor plan called for an apartment for the owner and his family, as well as a flexible-use section (office, granny flat, or future retirement quarters); currently used as a granny flat. The challenge was met by implementing an open-plan living concept, in which the various living functions interpenetrate around a staircase, with a dedicated sleeping area and a separate, independently usable section.
