The underlying design concept aimed to construct spherically curved surfaces (hyperbolic paraboloids) using an aluminium prefabrication system. Drawing on experience in concrete construction, the idea was that just as the formwork for a spherically curved cast surface consists of straight elements (boards), a spherically curved prefabricated structure could also be built from straight metal elements. The result was a hyperboloid of revolution made of straight tubes and diamond-shaped sheets—a structure that could be assembled and disassembled.
