Fire Station in Ottobrunn

In the rapidly growing municipality of Ottobrunn near Munich, a new fire station was required. The relatively large building mass, in relation to the existing buildings in the immediate vicinity, was designed with a highly articulated structure, harmonizing with the surrounding architecture. The most striking element, and a desired urban planning accent, is the 18-metre-high hose drying tower with its training balconies, which is also used for rescue drills and training exercises. The hose washing area, a narrow, single-storey section, connects the freestanding tower to the recessed operations and residential building and the adjoining vehicle bay. The ground floor of the operations building houses: a ready room and commander's room, hose storage, workshops, changing rooms, a clothing store, showers, and restrooms. All rooms are grouped around an inner courtyard according to their functional purpose.
