Location and Design: This comprehensive school is situated in a park-like setting on the outskirts of the new residential satellite town of Skelmersdale (Lancashire, England). The school building program comprises four large secondary schools surrounded by green spaces and playgrounds within the Skelmersdale catchment area. Each of these schools is designed on a 16-hectare site for approximately 2,000 pupils. Completed in 1969, the first phase of this program is divided into two nearly identical, yet completely independent, seven-section school complexes for a total of 2,100 pupils aged 11 to 16: Westbank School (Section I) and Glenburn School (Section II).
