The unique wall design of this reading room creates a nuanced play of light. While the continuous skylight illuminates the entire space and the mushroom-shaped ceiling, and small windows at eye level provide a visual connection to the outside, the actual wall of the room appears closed. It is formed from 7-metre-high Z-shaped wooden elements, positioned one behind the other in such a way that no direct view through the narrow light slits extending to the skylight is possible. In this way, a closed yet transparent enclosure was achieved, and any feeling of confinement within the building was avoided.
