The new airport is located in the desert and has a saltwater level that begins one metre below ground level. The airport complex consists of the three-storey main building, flanked by the control wing with the control tower on one side and the entrance foyer on the other. It rises over a total area of 233 x 116 metres. The ground floor contains only technical rooms and service areas and is completely closed off from the public area. The first floor houses the arrival and departure halls, ticket counters, baggage claim, duty-free shops, and the entrance foyer. From a pedestrian ramp running along the runway side of the airport building on this level, covered passenger bridges descend to the runway, culminating in a spiral ramp (three from the main building and one from the foyer). Baggage is transported by conveyor belt through the ground floor to the exit.
