The residential complex comprises 48 units in three blocks of 16 units each, grouped around a pond. At first glance, traditional house types appear to have been chosen; however, due to the specific characteristics of the building site, this project resulted in an unusual, exemplary, and innovative construction solution for timber construction: The four-storey maisonettes—the first four-storey timber buildings since the Great Fire of London—are situated on a site constantly exposed to flooding, which could only bear one-sixth of the usual foundation loads. Therefore, a construction method had to be chosen whose weight was reduced to approximately one-sixth of the total loads of conventional building methods.
