The planning of the plant, with a footprint of 11,500 square metres and a volume of 44,500 cubic metres, was based on three requirements: 1. All technical stages of glass production, from the manufacture of mouth-blown glass through pressing and semi-automatic processes to the fully automated production of commercial glassware, are integrated here. 2. The production of 24% lead crystal, potash glass, and coloured glass, as well as the dosing and mixing of the batch in an electronically controlled system, requires a smooth material flow and thus also clear workflows. The fully automated control of temperatures and furnace atmospheres also demands specific conditions. 3. Environmental conditions for the employees had to be created that differ significantly from the traditional, highly demanding conditions in the glass industry, where the strain on workers had previously been exceptionally high due to extreme temperatures.
