The building required the accommodation of numerous laboratories, technical facilities, special-purpose rooms, offices, and social areas. For economic reasons, an approximately square floor plan was chosen for this pharmaceutical and quality control laboratory. The laboratory areas are arranged in the outer zones on a 3 x 1.10 = 3.30 m grid. The smaller rooms are located in the core; they are also arranged on a 1.10 m grid. The office zones are integrated into the laboratory layout (allowing for future use as laboratories). Air conditioning was ruled out from the outset. In the laboratories, only the air extracted via the fume hoods is replaced. The core area contains several climate-controlled zones with their own equipment. To ensure good airflow in the laboratory zones, the fresh air intake had to be positioned opposite the fume hoods, given the room depth of 8.80 m.
