Country Inn Wallberg near Zurich
The Wollberg Inn and Restaurant in Volketswil near Zurich, as part of a chain of existing and planned public establishments, lies in the transition zone between a historically cohesive village centre and a larger urban area, which, however, was not foreseeable when the competition was announced in 1964. The competition brief simply stipulated the design of a country inn tailored to the needs of the community of Volketswil, with a restaurant, a community hall, and a few guest rooms, to replace the old village inn, which had been demolished due to road widening. Although this basic concept was retained, the Wollberg has since developed into a supra-regional meeting place, extending far beyond the catchment area of a typical village inn.
