Lecture Hall Building of the University of Cologne

The lecture hall building, with a total capacity of 2,100 seats and forming the visual centerpiece of the university forum, houses two lecture halls with 600 seats each, two lecture halls with 300 seats each, and two smaller halls with 150 seats each. The two larger lecture halls can be combined into one lecture hall with 900 seats using a hydraulically operated retractable wall. Construction: The acoustic ceilings above the lecture halls are designed as folded plate structures with panel thicknesses ranging from 18 to 22 mm. The roof cladding consists of 10 cm thick aerated concrete panels resting on precast purlins spanned across the folded plate edges. End plates transfer the loads via reinforced concrete lamellae and walls to beams and columns.
