Haraldslund Indoor Swimming Pool, Aalborg/Denmark

The new indoor swimming pool is the result of a collaboration between the municipalities of Aalborg and Hasseris. During the planning phase, care was taken to preserve as many of the existing trees as possible. For this reason, the swimming hall is set back somewhat from the main site. The forecourt facing the street is paved and designed as a recreational area. Parking is located behind the hall. The actual swimming hall has a freestanding structure, occupying a 3 x 3 module area within the low-rise building. It consists of four diagonal main beams with an intervening system of secondary beams, almost like a traditional hipped roof with rafters and crossbeams.
