Integration into the urban context: As part of an urban planning competition held by the city of Lemgo, which aimed, among other things, to create a gateway-like demarcation of the old town centre at the Ostertor (East Gate), located within the ring of the old fortifications, through increased building density on both sides of the street, the municipal savings bank, as the main adjacent property owner, launched a preliminary design competition in 1964 for a new commercial building. The new building complex was intended to blend in with the surrounding medieval development of two- to three-storey timber-framed houses.
