Protestant Community Centre in Coburg

Urban Planning Context: The grouping of the complex and the design of the roof slopes were adapted to the small-scale development of the hillside, with its detached single-family and terraced houses. The creation of a focal point through dominant building masses was avoided; for the same reason, a bell tower was also omitted. Architectural Concept: The fundamental idea behind the design was not to create the sacred space as an isolated zone, but rather to connect it with various workshops and meeting spaces; consequently, it is more of a built expression of communal work than a public manifestation. With its diverse uses and potential impacts, the building complex reflects the social life of the surrounding new urban districts.
