Residential Building in Darmstadt in Timber Frame Construction
The property is located on the outskirts of Darmstadt, below Frankenstein Castle, at the edge of the Odenwald forest. The residents wanted to make the best possible use of the available resources: A grid structure on a 10 x 10 m footprint, built using traditional timber framing techniques, emerged as the most sensible approach. The building concept involved arranging the posts on a 1.25 m grid for the exterior walls and dividing the centre with a double row of posts, creating the framework. On the ground floor, only the kitchen, workroom, and utility room were partitioned off.
