Variel Space Cell System
The development of the Variel system (Elcon AG, Zug/Switzerland) was based, more than 15 years ago and still today, on a simple question: How can a building be manufactured industrially without sacrificing sophisticated architecture? Even the initial considerations regarding this problem revealed that prefabrication systems using more or less large, "finished" panels are no longer viable as industrial construction methods of the future. Only the integrated production of the building shell and interior finishes, from the load-bearing structure to the final product, on the assembly line of a factory equipped with the latest technological advancements can be considered industrial construction.
