Location: The "Dammer Berge" rest stop is situated on the A1 motorway (Hansalinie) between Bremen and Osnabrück, where the motorway climbs from the North German Plain into the first hills. At the crest of these hills, the road runs through a 7-metre-deep cutting, over which the rest stop's bridge spans. Architectural Concept: Despite the heavy concrete bridge structure and steel superstructure, the design creates a seamless transition. The connection between the supporting bridge and the rest stop is achieved through the floor-to-ceiling glazing and lightweight metal cladding, with the roof structure and its contours playing a key role.
