Location: The Rheine indoor swimming pool is located in the city centre, within the greenbelt defined by the Ems River; the distance to the river is approximately 100 metres. It serves a catchment area of approximately 50,000 inhabitants. The building is situated in a flood zone; the average groundwater level is approximately 50 cm below ground level. In the basement, only the "technical zone" (18% of the building's total floor area) is protected against flooding and groundwater. The remaining area of the basement is flooded during high water.
