Setterich Secondary School
Location and general situation: The secondary school is part of a school centre consisting of a middle school, a special needs school, and a three-section sports hall currently under construction. The school building is situated in a two-storey residential area. Functions: The school is designed as a two-storey hall-style school. The standard classrooms surround the hall in a staggered arrangement. In the widest section, the main staircase is integrated as a large concrete structure; the last of four identical flights leads to the upper-floor corridor of the two-bay special needs classroom wing. The corridor area of the upper-floor classrooms extends into the hall space in a gallery-like fashion. The strong differentiation of the building components results in favorable acoustics in the hall. Connected to the hall is the open break corridor, in whose inner courtyard a secondary stairwell and a fountain are enclosed.
