Caritas Forest Home Karlsruhe
Location: The building is situated on the city's outskirts, along one of the radial, historic avenues in the Hardtwald forest. The existing forest setting played a crucial role in determining the building's exterior design and the choice of materials. The integration of architecture and landscape was a stated objective. Key data: Construction period 1968-1969, enclosed volume approx. 8360 cubic metres, usable floor space approx. 2000 square metres, total costs approx. 1.85 million DM. The building was designed as a recreational facility for young children and the elderly. It serves as a holiday retreat for approximately 450 schoolchildren in the spring and autumn, as well as providing year-round care for children with intellectual disabilities.
