Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system: The patients' rooms are heated and cooled by a two-pipe spiral system, 14" (approx. 35 cm) and 66" (approx. 165 m) long, located near the window. The system circulates room air through the filter and back through heating/cooling coils, thus operating independently of the outside air supply. A thermostat in each room automatically controls the flow of water through the coils to maintain the desired room temperature.
