Residential building in Zurich

The multifamily dwelling, B35, in Zurich is intended to show that entirely emission-free buildings can be achieved that are neither padded with thick layers of insulation nor powered by huge quantities of CO2-neutral electricity. The key to B35’s energy concept lies within the building’s service equipment and facilities, their efficiency and intelligent interconnection. Hansjürg Leibundgut, client and driving force of the new building, is professor of building services engineering at the ETH in Zurich. He summarises his approach with the terms ‘Zero Emission’ and ‘Low Ex’ – in plain English: CO2 neutrality and, as far as possible, low exergy (i.e. mainly electricity) consumption.
