The seven skyscrapers described in this report, all constructed with load-bearing steel structures, can be considered essential and characteristic of the current understanding of and approach to solving such problems. Their existence is explained by general preconditions and possibilities, which will be briefly discussed beforehand. These are: 1. Important socio-economic factors necessitating the construction of skyscrapers. 2. The tremendous development of technical facilities that make skyscrapers possible in the first place. 3. Current structural and architectural challenges in skyscraper construction. 4. The current practices for planning and constructing skyscrapers in America.
