Wooden Suspended Roof at the Federal Garden Show in Dortmund

The suspended roof, commissioned by the German Timber Association (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Holz e.V.) and designed by the architects Prof. Behnisch + Partner, is the first prestressed timber rib shell on the grounds of the Federal Garden Show in Dortmund. It covers an area of approximately 1000 m². In plan view, the roof has the shape of a diamond, with two opposite corners rising and the other two lowered. Cuts parallel to the line connecting the highest points result in downward-sloping sections perpendicular to this line and upward-curving sections. It is therefore a saddle-shaped surface.
