The aim was to create a transparent exterior wall construction so that observers could see the impressive equipment through the large glazed surfaces. The boiler house is built on a steel frame atop a concrete foundation. The steel columns (IPBI 300 and IPBI 200, respectively), which support the roof structure and the intermediate floor, are set back 2.50 metres; this avoided visible structural elements on the exterior facades. As a result, the roof structure cantilevers beyond the columns.
