Savings Bank Branch and Connecting Facilities in Einbeck

In 1964, the district town of Einbeck in the Hildesheim administrative region launched a competition with the following brief: A branch of the municipal savings bank was to be built on Neustädter Kirchplatz, a central inner-city square measuring 75 x 90 metres, formerly the site of the dilapidated Neustädter Church, which had been demolished a few years earlier. The square was surrounded by two- and three-storey timber-framed houses from the 18th and 19th centuries and bordered by main roads (e.g., Federal Highway 3). The pavilion was also to house an information office of the municipal tourist association for passing tourists.
