The building complex is situated between a railway line and a highway. It accentuates the northern approaches to the city. The design was developed in close collaboration between the architect, the construction department of Philips' technical operations, and the building commission of the Philips administration, which was to be housed in the building. The overarching goal of the entire project was to achieve an internal organization that, through balanced coordination, would guarantee a high degree of work efficiency and psychologically favorable working conditions. The architects had considerable freedom with regard to the construction methods and building forms.
